15 years working across the data pipeline specialising in data science. Educated as a mathematician I fell in love with statistics and building predictive models. I’ve been producing and shipping ML models throughout my entire career with a large focus on insurance risk and demand modelling. I’ve always worked in highly commercial areas of the company where poor models and/or mistakes cost significant revenue and therefore great jeopardy. This has really sharpened by business mind and reinforced my scientific mindset. I’ve come from individual contributor to senior and lead roles all the way to head of departments and executive positions. I know how to do and how to lead. I have built bespoke data products for companies including price optimisation software. I was building AI agents with local small language models when ChatGPT was still becoming popular. I have built production agentic networking in AWS bedrock before “agentic” was a popular term. But I do not forget the fundamentals of data science and statistics and ground myself with experiments and measurements. Data science has become and old title but today we need it more than ever to produce AI products that work and deliver value.
