With over 20 years of hands-on IT infrastructure experience, Sergio Rua brings deep technical expertise across multiple domains—from Unix systems administration and network architecture to cloud-native infrastructure and Kubernetes orchestration.
Currently Head of AI & DevOps at digitalis.io, Sergio specializes in building scalable, vendor-agnostic cloud infrastructure and championing open-source solutions over proprietary lock-in. His work spans infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible), AWS and multi-cloud deployments, Kubernetes cluster design, and systems architecture for high-availability environments.
A long-standing practitioner in distributed data systems, Sergio has spent years running Apache Cassandra at scale and contributes to AxonOps, the Cassandra and Kafka operations platform. His observability work covers OpenTelemetry pipelines, ClickHouse-backed telemetry storage, and Grafana and Prometheus tooling, with a strong emphasis on cloud security, CI/CD design, and rigorous BDD testing.
More recently he leads Digitalis's applied AI efforts, designing agent-based workflows, retrieval-augmented knowledge systems, and MCP server infrastructure that bring LLM tooling into day-to-day operations. He writes regularly on infrastructure and AI engineering, sharing practical, production-tested guidance with the wider community.
